About Paul Hepworth

First off, ranting about myself is not something I enjoy doing so bear with me as I try to communicate who I am.
Professional Stuff
Although I have always been fascinated with mechanics, electronics (computers,) and physics, I have spent most of my professional life working on web applications in some capacity whether it is slicing a Photoshop file, core web development, or a system administration task involving compiling a kernel or configuring a load balancer, and sometimes all four within the day. *;)* I condition to be a jack-of-all-trades and a master of a few. I enjoy using my broad skill set within startups where it can be appreciated and fully utilized. I enjoy software development to operations, managing projects and people, but the thing I love most of all is bringing web applications to life.
My preference has always been to work with open source software because of the communities that surround it and the raw flexibility it offers to those who need to flex it. I have contributed many patches to various projects and have also contribute by helping others, and evangelizing.
I enjoy being exposed to many different programming languages and toolsets, as I am a firm believer that the best tool should be used for the job, and I also fully accept that I would be short changing my client or employer if I did not continuously explore new languages, technologies, and keep up on the latest standards.
Personal Stuff
I have been married since 2000 and have two boys and a cute little girl. I enjoy being a husband and father since it gives me the most practical and relevant opportunities to learn and practice communication, leadership, problem solving, and many other skills on an ongoing basis.
For most of my life I have been involved with small business and working with smart entrepreneurs. As a child and throughout my teenage years I used my skills and my ability to learn quickly to assist in a wide range of personal and family business ventures which have planted within me a passion for creating, testing, learning, and finishing.
Although I am entrepreneurial minded and enjoy the business aspects of every role I play within a project, I am also passionate about melding business needs with the right technologies.
I am very results oriented and enjoy iterative cycles where I can quickly see my work and make improvements.
I like people too. Working with and learning from good people is what I enjoy most about being a part of a team. I like to teach and be taught.
Although I have been trained in various classroom settings, I am really an autodidact, and have found that for me the best true learning and loving to learn comes from finding something that needs to be done and learning to master it and do it right.
My hobbies include all sports, computers/web design, and of spending time with my family and teaching my boys new things.
I work every day to prove to myself that I can make a difference.
